“Learning from a Machiya”

The French architect studio A.P.ARTs and the architect Stéphane Crété display an installation in a machiya, a town house which was built 130 years ago. The installation was inspired by the conversations the architects had with Japanese craftspeople, during which they learnt architectural and social wisdom as discovered the beauty of machiya. They question the connection spaces have with our modern society and our modern cities. They also question the development of urban cities and their sustainability. The installation is displayed with incense from Shoyeido.
